Sorry for not updating this area of my site but have been busy. Lots of things have happened over the last few months. 1. As you may we have been playing outdoors on the only two courts available in SW Florida at the Brookshire Bath and Tennis courts since Jan 2005. We were playing two nights a week on Tuesday and FRiday nights and doing pretty good. Through the summer months our Pickleball went down to a very few diehards because of heat and seasonal rains. t never fully recovered in the months of Nov, Dec but picked up a bit in Jan. 2 In late Jan 2006 Lee County for the first time ever, offered Pickleball as part of the Lee County Senior Games. We were able to get the NEW Wa-Ke- Hatchee Recreation Center to host the game inside in their new gym. These games were veryt sucesseul with entries coming from Lee County as well as other Counties. This was good practice in preparation for the upcoming Florida State Championship Games to be hosted here in the FT Myers area in Dec 2006 3 We were also able to talk the recreation area into giving us the use of the gym for pickleball on Saturdays from 9 AM to12. This was a real boost for PB in SW Florda being the first of perhaps many to come facilities willing to identify time for Pickleball. At the preseent time we average about 12 to 15 player each Sat and have three couts available with a hope of four. 4Needless to say we are enthused with this big step and have already added several player to our roster. Beginners are welcom and we identify at least one court at 9 AM to beginners. 5 Lost of thinking is being done about how we should organize our play ect so keep watching tis site to see what is around the corner. |
