| | November 15, 2006 | | Stroller of Ft Myers to lead the Olympic Style procession (grouped by County) of Senior Athletes | | The Florida Sports Foundation in Tallahassee have hired the Dixie Strollers of Ft Myers to Lead the Parade of Senior Champions on Dec 8th into the City of Palms Red Sox Stadium. The parade will start at 5 PM. Cost of admission is $7 and includes a meal. This a party for all the seniors who have participated in the State games which are hosted by Lee County. Over 2000 visitors are expected to to spend time in FT Myers between Dec 2 and Dec 10th either watching or competing in 20 sports. The Dixie Stroller are honored to play for such a distinguished group of active seniors. The manager of the Strollers, Gerry French, just happens to one of the competing athaletes as the current 2005 Gold Medal State Champion in the 75-79 age group for Racquetball, Badminton. He also is playing in the new sport sweeping the county called Pickleball again in the 75 to 79 age group. | | |
| | October 30, 2006 | | Dixieland Music seems to be catching on in Old Ft Myers | Not only have the Dixie Stroller played all summer long on Friday Nights on First Street in the River District of Old Ft Myers since last Oct 2005; the have just agreed on new contract with the Downtown Redevelopment Inc to play for another 12 months. Someone once said " the reward for excellence is it is expected". That's the case with the Strollers who seem to have found a home where people expect to hear good Dixieland music every Friday night from 6:30 to 8:15PM. In addition the Ragtimers will play at the Sanibel Big Arts Festival, The Ft Myers RV Show, The Seminole Casino, and perhaps as part of the Festival of Lights in Feb.
