| May 06, 2005 | | Handicaps are a must for small private RB clubs | | There are all kinds of handicap or rating systems. To name a few there is one in golf, another in tennis and on and on. In tennis, the system used tends to group players by a ranking system (i,e.3.5) which separates them into competitive levels for play. In private small clubs that service say 500 to 1000 homes it is difficult to get enough player to play; let alone get enough of the same level or rating. For this reason, handicaps are really need in order to level the playing field for all players. In tennis this is almost impossible using the conventional scoring system of “Love, 15, 30, 40 Game”. However; in sports like Racquetball, Badminton, Pickleball and any game which uses a numerical scoring method of 1.2.3.4 etc to Game; a well organized handicap system can bring Good, Better and Best players all on the court together for great competitive play. At Brookshire all players in such sports as racquetball must have a numerical handicap rating in order to play. As they improve, there handicap is adjusted to reflect their ability. During open time, all players who show up get a chance to play. The lower handicap player gets point equal to the difference in handicap ratings plus the right to serve first. Since we play all games to 11, no more than 5 points can be given. In doubles the sun of the handicaps on each team are used. The results of all matches played are recorded and reported every two weeks or so. The re are two important column on the statistics. The first is Average Points per Game and the second is % wins. If you click on the link below you will see one of Brookshire’s Statistics sheets. Handicaps really make our programs work for everyone !!!!
