Badminton Sr Championshps to be played on Dec 3 2006

SW Florida Lee County will host the Florida State Senior Games Championship’s December 2 to10th 2006

Senior Badminton Players (age 50 to 90) from all counties in Florida, who have qualified to compete in the 2006 State Championship Games, will travel to the Ft. Myers area to compete for the Gold Medal in their sport..

Of the many sports offered, Badminton Singles, Doubled & Mixed Doubles will be held on Sunday, Dec 3^rd 2006 in the new Lee County Rec. facility, called Estero Community Park. This facility is located at 9200 Corkscrew Pals Blvd, just off of Corkscrew. Singles competition begins at 9AM, Doubles begins at 2PM

The top three players, in each division and age bracket will be eligible to represent the State of Florida and compete in the National Sr. Games to be held in Louisville, KY in June of 2007. If you would like to see some active seniors compete in this fast sport plan to attend the competition on Sunday from 9 AM to finish. There is no charge and you can get a chance to visit the new Lee County Rec. facility which is the Headquarters for all the Senior games. On the 8^th of December, at the Red Sox City of Palms Stadium, there will be a Senior Games Celebration, Parade of Champions, starting at about 4 PM. Tickets to attend the celebration cost $7.00 and includes a meal.

My Dixie Strollers Dixieland band has been hired to perform at the stadium on the 8th to welcome all comers from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Don’t miss this exciting senior event. This is the first year that Lee County has hosted the event and will also host it in December of 2007 and 2008.

An update of the latest things happening in SW Florida

Well ,here it is, 3 months since I updated you on what is happening in badminton down in SW Florida. In December we got the final Ok to use a new indoor facility in Ft Myers which is working out great. We are averaging 15 player per night.

In late January Badminton was offered for the first time by Lee County in their Florida Senior Games with a great turn out of players. Lots of medals were issued as a result of the competitions in singles doubles and mixed doubles,qualifying players from Lee County to participate in in the State Championship Sr Games to be hosted by Lee County in Dec 2006.

At the present time we are playing only 1 night a week on Fridays starting at 6PM to 9PM.As we grow we may begin playing more than one night. So come on down and participate in this great sport at the Wa-Ke Hatchee Rec Center.
